The fastest internet connection in the world will hold by Korea Soon. The Korea Communication Commission has finalized plans to build the world’s fastest wired and wireless internet service by 2012.  At ten times the speed of the country’s current service, internet services will operate an average speed of 1 Gbps through a fixed downlink and 10 Mbps via a wireless connection.

The Government and the communications industry will be investing approximately 34 trillion won or around $24 billion. The project will requirement over 5 years and be available in Korea’s larger cities.  Smaller Korean towns will offer fixed line speeds of 50 to 100 Mbps downstream.

This speed will allow file sharers or download the 120-minute-lenght movie for 12 seconds. The main objective of this project – to prepare people to move to the Internet television (IPTV). Although unlikely, the above rate will be available to residents of small towns, but their 50-100 MB / sec for transmission in the global network, they still get it.
